Thesis Work (2012)

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"
  ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I approach this body of work as a forum for discussion around human nature, ferocity, and our unwillingness to accept ourselves as animals. Through steel and leather I create forms which are both crude and refined, investigating the conflicts between brutality and empathy, suffering and desire. While exploring themes which can both menace and seduce, this series of artwork aims to question the ethics of violence, natural materials, and the treatment of animals in Western society.
